Amazon’s digital assistant Alexa’s skill is evolving, putting the expertise of its competitors including Microsoft and Google at jeopardy. Within six months of time, Alexa has added 5000 more skills in its arsenal. Now Alexa has 1500 skills – up from 10,000 in February.
It seems as the Amazon’s Echo and Dot line is going to surpass its competitors, with the vast number voice-powered features. The skills of Alexa have doubled in one year period. At the beginning of 2017, Alexa only had 7000 skills, but within 8 months it has expanded its skill sets by leaps and bounds. Such skills are already available in Amazon Echo and Dot, and will soon be featured in the Echo Show.
What sets Alexa apart from other major digital assistance is the number of skills it has achieved in such a short span of time. Needless-to-say, when it comes to skill sets even renowned league competitors including Google Assistance and Microsoft Cortana are far cry from Alexa.
But what made Alexa so smart? Alexa has ensured its growth with ‘Flash Briefings’ which provide snippets of news and information and represent one of the easiest skills to develop. Few of the popular examples are from NPR, Huffington Post, and The Wall Street Journal. There are more than 2700 such skills in Alexa Skill store.
Over the past few months, the shipment of Amazon’s Echo has far surpassed its competitors. According to a survey conducted by marketer, Amazon Alexa currently occupies 70 percent of the market share. As people and brands are more familiar with Amazon, the company was able to gain recognition from all demographics compared to its competitors Google and Microsoft.
It seems Apple is also stepping into the game with the introduction of their ne HomePod device this year, but it seems that people are not yet ready to switch because of the huge price tag and complicated features.
For now, it seems that Alexa is the favorite voice assistant amongst all.
